My Five Weird Things

Okay, I’ll play along.

Image of a South Park style caricature of myself

Me, if I lived in South Park.

Maayan tagged me to play this game. Then—woh, ho ho—she challenged me to be poetic, too.

First off, here are the rules as I received them:

The 1st player of this “game” starts with the topic ‘5 weird habits of yourself’ and people who get tagged need to write a blog entry about their 5 weird habits as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next 5 people to be tagged and list their names.

Now, without further ado, here are my five weird things… Haiku-style:

  1. I can remember
    Movie dialog after
    Hearing it just once
  2. While brushing my teeth
    I do my stomach crunches
    To keep my figure
  3. I like “The Simpsons,”
    Poetry, the arts, travel,
    And science fiction
  4. In my work done well
I take my due credit, but
    Celebrity? No.
  5. There’s a Scottish kilt
    With my family’s tartan
    That I own and wear

What do you think?

Now, I’m supposed to tag five more people. Instead of doing that, however, I’ll leave it open to anyone who reads this to undertake their own “five weird things” list. How’s that for a cop out?

  1. Best cop-out I’ve ever seen Grant.

Hey Maayan wished I had thought to tag Grant, you brilliant lady you. *wink*

  2. Grant, you did take your time, indeed it was a worthy wait. Thank you.

    Ethelene, big grin here 😉

  3. well, here is my shot:
    1)
I am insanly in love with automobiles.. years back when my mom and dad had anear fatal accident, the first question I asked to my dad was “what about teh scooter, can we repair it” even before asking how my mom is 🙂 (that time i was in 8th std)
    2)
I can do with a little of sleep – infact 45 minute of sleep is enough for me, and i will be fully recharged with taht cat nap.
    3)
i love to sing, and have tried 2 times on stage, though each and every person I know says it sbetter i dont venture to sing in public (my voice is not at all suited for singing)
    4)
I love Cartoons. Dennis the menace is my fav and during my BSc Chemistry days, my lab was called Dextors laborotory. I read Calvin and dilbert too 🙂 and watch animation movies…
    5)
i am dextro handed – i can use my left and right hand for almost anything, but writing. I use my left hand to deliver punchs (when i was boxing… looong time back).

  4. Grant…good to see you held through on Maayan’s pick…as I was picked too! However when it came for me to pick someone, your wife Lydia failed to come though as you did! Guess she’s too busy making truffles! LOL! I’m jealous, I wish I could eat them!!!

By the way, you’re not too weird! I too like cartoons. Especially the Simpsons!

  5. Funny…funny…funny…
Sorry, No sense tagging me. LOL… too busy, just enough time, to do my own blogging 😀

  6. 5 weird things…

I can tell what people are feeling without being told.

I sometimes sense the future through dreams.

My voice is raspy all the time from a surgical error and I’m still not rich.

My teenage son is a pain in the butt, yet I let him live.

I could sleep 12 hours a day if uninterrupted. How’s that for a newby?

  7. I only got one player – Missy.. u dear.. I deleted mine.. my wierd petulant side.
    Sniff sniff!!

  8. LOL I’m loving the weird lists………sorry I haven’t stopped in lately grant the holidays have kept me a bit busy……..I would have expected weirder from you *smiles* well done though!

  9. Loved it, Grant! Here are my top five:

(You already know about this first one.) I always seem to be in the right place at the right time to meet famous people-—actors, writers, newscasters, sports figures, etc. I’ve been running into these folks, sometimes literally, for years now.

I can play or sing any song that I have heard only once and in the correct key. No requests, please. (I’m no longer the neighborhood’s performing monkey.)

I must be snuggled in a blanket during resting time and covered while sleeping–even now at 41. (This stems from my childhood fear of the dark.) Now, of course, I’m rarely alone under my blanket these days. 😉

I can roll one eyeball in circles while keeping the other stationery. Hey, don’t laugh—-I’m great at parties!

I have prophetic dreams. My first was at 18. I dreamed that a fire erupted all around me and badly burned me. It was so frightening, that I awoke-—only to find that the cigarette I had fallen asleep smoking had dropped onto the carpet, which was just catching fire. I quit smoking on the spot!

    A bonus one, you ask?

I, too, can recite dialog from every movie that I’ve ever seen. I also add the actors names and whatever trivia I’ve learned about them over the years-—dating back to movies from the 30s and 40s. Want to know a little bit about Busby Berkeley’s 1933 classic “42nd Street” with Ruby Keeler? (I know, I know… I’m a geek!)

  10. Pick just five? That’s way better than “Pick just one”, but I don’t know if I could narrow it down to five…
    1. I don’t like money. At all. I hate it, and more, I hate the necessity of it that makes people mad for it.
    2. I dress like Janis Joplin (at least that’s what people tell me) in the warm months. In the winter, I get mistaken for a guy – a lot. The weirdest part is, I don’t mind that last part at all. It makes me laugh – a lot.
    3. I’m multilingual. I speak fluent Feline, and Canine, a little Avian, (several dialects) a little Bovine, Equine and just a wee tad bit of Squirrel. (The ones found in Central Illinois. These southern squirrels are hard to learn). Oh, and of course, my native language – “English”.
    4. When I was nine, my mother tried to teach me how to embroider. I couldn’t do it like Mom, so I got frustrated and discouraged and stopped trying. 11 years later, I tried again, and first time out, I embroidered like a pro. Math was the same way: I about flunked out when I was in high school. I tried the same textbook two years later, and aced the whole book in a eek. I learn slow, but…fast too. Sorta. Just give me a few years and then try again. I’ll blow your mind – and mine too. (Its kinda hard to get a “normal” job this way.)
    5. I know what love is. I really do. God is not a mystery tome, and neither is love. Ask Lydia. I’ll go on about it for hours, if you let me. 😛 I rarely quote Scriptures, tho I do know them, but I can tell you some of the most amazing true stories of things that have happened in my real and immediate life that really, taken all together, have no other explanation than that God is driving and I’m just holding the wheel.
Yayyyy, I did it. Just five weird things. Am I weird enough to qualify for the Weird Club of America? Canada? Rhode Island, at least? Oh come on, my friend in RI assures me there are only 8 people living there, SURELY I qualify for Weird Club of Rhode Island…

  11. Awesome! I’ll post some on my blog.

  12. Okay here I go,1-I have three teenagers and they are actually good kids lol,2-Sometimes I can tell what somebodys going to say before they even say it,3-I have this sudden fondness of chocolate that has packed on a whopping 50 pounds,4-I think Im having a mid-life crisis lol and last but not least 5-I have seen spirits,(and yes Im not insane)

  13. Okay, you in a kilt? Now THAT I wanna see! 🙂

  14. Robin, I’ve been waiting for someone to mention the kilt. I’ll have to look for some pictures. Or take some new ones.

  15. Weird things…hmmm~~~ 1. I am skilled at using a butterfly knife – check my blog. It’s not really something you’d expect from a lady I suppose 2. I skipped 6th AND 7th grade – not really weird, just surprising. 3. If a man doesn’t have a tattoo…I always want them to get one…at least when they’re dating me… lol. I just like tattoos. 4. I like men in kilts…haha just kidding. When I cook food…I don’t want anyone to talk to me at all. I will get annoyed and upset. I’d be in a zone. haha~~~~~ 5. I can spend my whole day online posting messages on boards about politics. I know that’s not really healthy 😛 ~~

  16. It’s kinda hard to come up with weird things about yourself, isn’t it? I mean, whatever your life is like is what “normal” means to you. I saw this post several days ago, but couldn’t come up with a difinitive 5 for myself. However, after reading the others above, I am going to try…

    1. When I was about 8, I stepped on a sewing needle that was carelessly dropped in the carpeting in my room. It broke in half (pointy side in) on that step and had to be surgically removed in ER. I heard the doc tell my oldest sister it might have traveled to my heart and killed me.

    2. Even though I’m the youngest member of the family, at 5’5″ I am now the tallest. I have been taller than one of my older sisters since I was just a toddler, when people thought we were twins. (She hated that; I loved it.)

    3. I am pretty good at recognizing voices and faces on the tube and radio. I may not know their names, but I can tell you where I heard or saw them before.

    4. A magazine article that mentioned a bat house inspired me to learn more about bats. I am a member of batcon.org and have purchased and erected a bat house in my yard. It’s been up there for over a year now, with no occupants yet. Hopefully that means they are not homeless, but it is a bit disappointing after all the trouble and cost hubby and I went through.

    5. I used to be really shy as a kid and teenager. In adulthood, I recognized the problem and vowed to myself that if I ever caught myself hesitating to do something I kind of want to do, and the only reason I have for not doing it is shyness or embarrassment, I MUST do it. Now I dance wildly (not necessarily well, but I don’t care) and love to sing karaoke. I walk up to strangers at parties and strike up interesting conversations. And I don’t let shyness stand in the way of my own personal progress. People hardly believe I could ever have been a shy little violet. 🙂

  17. 5 weird things about me: I take vitamins, supplements and eat alot of vegatables, yet I still smoke. I like to dance wildly around a bonfire and drum out rhythms I hear in my head. I see fairies, real ones with shinning auras. They live in my friends elm tree. I won’t swear to it, but I can dream the future. I have no way to know if these thing happen…but they feel very real.

  18. @ Debra C: I deleted the double post.

  19. Grant, I feel they are not wierd habits.. but good habits…
